No no crate they are fine . They don’t stay in crates at home either . I used to take crates with my Dachshunds but the Pugs are great . Except Bruno get’s bored sometimes and annoys Gordon .

Otis doesn't use a crate at home either. Though if we go somewhere to stay and have to leave him alone, we crate him. He hates it. We have a couple trips planned for the summer and the places we are staying require him to be crated if left alone. We bought him a big 36 inch crate so hopefully he wont hate it as much? The crate he came with was only a 24 and was kinda small for him. Plus the people we got him from had crated him all day everyday even at night, so he hates the crate.

You bought the crate already otherwise maybe get a soft material kennel ? Just because it might not remind him as much on a crate . Just put it up now and through out the day hide treats in it when he is not looking . Tell him to go in and he finds the treat all is good . Just don’t close it for now . Mine go in willingly especially if there is a snuggle bed Gordon would seek it out . Bruno is not allowed in when Gordon is in his save space . Well we got a time out kennel for Bruno but have not used it in a long time LoL
You can try feeding in the crate or just keep his water bowl in for now and see how he does ?
We never had an issue with the boys we use the tags for the door . Usually Hotels keep all dog rooms on bottom floor in one area anyway.

I play often Such (search) with my boys . I hide kibbles and then I tell him to follow me around and point to areas . I like to do it a bid difficult now with having them think . I place it under the bathroom mats or easy open kitchen cabinet doors . Gordon get’s to crazy to think but Bruno does very well .
