Default "Birthday cake" or treat ideas

Hi, everyone. Ernie is turning 1 Apr. 11th and I want to give him a fun treat. I know people on here have made doggie-appropriate b-day "cakes" and treats. I'd love it if you'd share some of your concoctions with me! I was thinking it'll probably involve pumpkin, but he gets that every day so plain pumpkin wouldn't be special enough. Any ideas? Thanks!

Here's the recipe for trout cookies. I bet you could make it into one giant cookie!

    TROUT COOKIES

Too bad you can't buy canned trout that I know of. My grandpa (dec.) was quite the fisherman in his day. You know, come to think of it, where I used to train dogs, one of the trainers made "tuna brownies." I bet you could use canned tuna or salmon.

    2 Cups Wheat Flour
    1 Cup Cornmeal
    Pinch of salt
    3 Tablespoons Vegetable oil
    1 Cup water
    1 Cup Trout
    1 small clove of garlic

I mixed everything in the food processor and mixed till doughy consistency.

Shape into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet. I flattened the balls down with a fork.

    400 degrees for 15 minutes.

Our very own Lisa of My Dog Ate It Catering makes great cookies. She can dress them up for a birthday. Look for her in the Village Merchant forum. The Jones Boys give them four, eight, twelve (forgot about Homer) paws up!!!

ETA: Here's a pic of the cookies I ordered from MDAIC for Toby's Gotcha Day.

I just glanced at it and posted away. I've deleted that post and reposted the correct thread-thank you for catching that.

We've had cookies from Lisa before. They are great and very pretty. Oh and nice enough for humans to have a bite of, too!

For Snifter's first birthday I got some of his favourite treats which are bone shaped biscuits. I happened to have some of that Kong Stuff'n Paste (yes, junk food, I know) and used that to make patterns on the biscuits so they looked like iced biscuits. Snifter loved them.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm sure I'll be able to whip together something extra special. I found Lisa's site too... she has such cute stuff!

I'll be sure to post photos with whatever I come up with! :)

I bought a dog cake mix at a specialty store and made icing from peanut butter and cream cheese. Matilda just licked the icing and ignored the "cake"

I've taken some canned dog food and shaped into a little cake, then covered it with plain yogurt to look like frosting. Lucy licked off the yogurt and walked away from the wet food. She's the only pug I've met that doesn't like wet food... :pug: Go figure!
