    Default My Family

My family is finally really feeling how rescue tugs at your heart sometimes. I have Pebbles, the little 9 week old puppy with a spinal deformity (see the Spinal Deformity thread in the medical section). Picked her up yesterday and she goes to the vet today for x-rays and prognosis, then she goes on to LA to a wonderful lady named Michelle who will foster her as a special needs hospice, for whatever time she has left that can be lived happy and pain free.

Of course my whole family fell for the little puppy girl. Who can resist a tiny pug puppy?! When the kids came home from work and school they all loved on her. My youngest daughter, Savannah (18) especially liked her and cuddled her all evening. I walked by her room last night and Pebbles was asleep with her head on my daughters neck as my daughter slept in bed. So cute!!!!

This morning she was teary-eyed as she told her goodbye and kept asking if they could do anything for her so that she wouldn't have to die. I told her there isn't a lot they can do, even with milder cases and she is very bad, but as long as she is free from pain and enjoying life her foster will let her live out her time. She was wiping away tears as she walked out the door.

Oh, and now Pebble's mom or older sister is on CL....same guy, same phone number, 1.5 y/o fawn female. Won't surrender to rescues, we will try to get this one the same round-about way we got the puppy.

    Take care,
    Lisa

Poor little one. Dr. Martin said it's the very worst case of scoliosis she's ever seen. They did x-rays and no one can believe this pup can walk and have control of her bowel and bladder. Immediately after her shoulders her spine makes nearly a 90 degree turn. then gradually s curves back. The ribs on the inside of the curve are all overlapping each other and pressing in on her lung, which is about 1/3 the size of her other lung and is full of fluid, she says from the pressure.

They are sending her x-rays out to the specialist, but she is sure there is nothing we can do other than love and care for her until she begins to be distressed by it. The foster knows what signs to watch for. The vet figures she has 2 weeks or so.

So sad, such a sweet adorable little puppy girl.

    Take care,
    Lisa

Although I was not expecting a miracle, I sure was hoping for one in her case. I am so sorry to hear this. At least she will know true love and compassion before she has to leave us. Give her some extra love and hugs from all of us in Hawaii. We'll keep her and her foster in our prayers.
