Crazy to adopt OLD dog?

Those fatty lumps could be very expensive to remove if they grow bigger and the rescue doesn’t cover the veterinary costs.

Just seen the photos - she is totally adorable!

They def won't... and if she's 11 like they say (and there's no one to say she isn't, except their vet (and mine if I take her)), I probably wouldn't take them off unless she under for something else (teeth?).. There's no odor from teeth or ears, the latter could be swabbed a bit in my opinion... and maybe the former "brushed" (I can do, but confess I usually don't do much in that dept: just cheese wiz on my finger!)...

Thinking and "waiting" ?to hear how it goes at the vet? (I don't expect anything special there - it's an "adopt as is" deal)...

THANKS FOR ALL THOUGHTS... If I take her and we get the nails better and the weight coming off, by the time she's getting more mobility (I'd hope)... she'll know I am her momma and she's to obey ME. HA ha!

I am hearing that contact has been made with my vet reference.. and with one of my personal references (s o who has gotten 3-4 dogs from this organization and who has been in my house, so that will count as the house visit, and correctly so).. And tonight they are chatting with my other personal ref, who is a trainer who has worked with me and 5 dogs of mine over the last 10 years.

The timing of this "project" isn't ideal, so I am keeping quiet.. hoping to hear what the vet says... and see if maybe someone else better suited to the dogs limitations has come forward. I might be able to take her on starting at the end of the summer - by which time MAYBE the foster will have gotten the weight and toenails moving in the right direction? (I sense the WOMAN of the fostering team is competent and "present" in terms of the issues.. but I have not met or spoken with her: I agree with the rescue org's assessment of Mr. Fosterer: he's about the capability of a 16yo male: distracted, not too invested, aimless, unclear (in communications, concepts, etc.).)

Else I might shoot for "fosterer status" and see what comes long in the next vanload. They seem to go "down" (Fla, Ky, ???) every other week or so. (!!)

ITM, I took my min pin for a "working" walk at the farmer's market yesterday... 20 minutes left him thoroughly exhausted but I was and am proud of him. It was a great day for that activity!

I will be following your posts, she is a big girl, you have larger than pug dogs but since I got Finn, it was a learning curve with how strong big dogs are, it took me a while(we walk daily) to train us both to walk and to be or not be around other dogs, I still fear the loose big dog as I know they could knock me down, I used to have labs but got spoiled with pugs, but I love the feel of protection from a big dog. Old thread - update: I see Bella has been adopted. Photo looks as if she's been on reduction (and gotten her nails clipped, TG!)...

I know she was in ~decent foster care during this time - and I know I was too super busy to have managed ANY dog other than my own over the last 8 weeks (company, including an unknown child who was SUPER with my terriers: he loved feeding, walking, and grooming them every day!)...

Welll... OH MY GOD - she is 40-50 pounds overweight!

Food Motivated, but Weight Incapacitated!

Someone has loved her to death... with food.

So, she's "sedentary" and when presented with another dog (not one of mine) in sniffing distance, she's curious, but unobtrusive. Let's face it, she couldn't handle any kind of confrontation!

She allowed me to handle her ears and teeth and feet. "Normal" elbow callouses. TERRIBLY neglected toenails. Vet visit is this week, so hopefully that project will at least start - and help her with mobility a little! She has two "fatty masses" I found, larger on her right "barrel" than on her left, but not tender to the touch. Fosterer sent her husband who was not too informing/informative... nothing to report in terms of issues/activities which aroused her: nothing but food. She is allegedly housetrained... has mastered their stairs, and "had no trouble" getting into the car... but I watched the departure, and he lifted her paws in then had to lift up her rear, so I don't really trust HIS reports at all.

When she looses a few pounds, and gets confident, will she be "more rottweillery" ?? Who can tell? She's incapacitated right now... so an unknown, and yes, I don't want to be pulled over by her if she suddenly decides to lurch after something out of hunger, confidence, or drive!

So I'm trying to think it through a bit. She's not a rottie right now: she's a lovely sweet lump of lard.

(I brought home handfuls of hair from her and my two are being angelicly cute having been very sniffy about it when I got home!)

You can get your dog a pug shaped dog bed as it will her with mobility. You have also mentioned your dog has elbow calluses. Although they are non-painful but it will make her joints week. So better to get a comfortable dog bed. Make sure to take care of her. She is really cute and pretty.

If it would make you happy, go for it. I am not a Rotti fan, since a rott cross pack with a pit thrown in, consumed an elderly woman in a neighboring community.
